Each year, more and more men are seeking treatments to help reverse the ageing process. Mr Ismail understands that men want to look their very best and offers a unique, individualised approach following a thorough assessment.

Male Breast Reduction (Gynaecomastia)

This is a common condition that can affect both men and teenage boys where breast tissue swells due to sex hormone imbalances or weight gain. This can lead to enlarged breasts which can be a source of embarrassment for clients. Medications, drugs, alcohol and other health conditions can also lead to male breast enlargement. The aim of treatment is to remove excessive tissue causing enlarged breasts. Here in clinic we can offer two different treatment options to reduce this tissue, liposuction (see liposuction section) or male breast reduction.

What is involved?

Male breast reduction is usually performed if the condition is caused primarily by excessive breast gland tissue rather than excessive fat. This procedure is carried out under general anaesthetic and incisions are made around the nipple to allow the removal of gland tissue. The placement of incision sites is aimed to reduce scarring while preserving the blood supply to the nipple areola complex (NAC).

Both liposuction and breast reduction can be performed simultaneously if there is an excess of both fatty and glandular tissue. The method of tissue removal will be discussed prior to surgery during consultation.

In severe cases it may be necessary to remove excess skin and this will be discussed further during the consultation.

How long does the procedure take?

The length of the procedure varies depending on what is required.

Are there any risks?

All surgical treatments carry risk, most commonly there is a risk of bleeding, infection, swelling/bruising or unsightly scarring. Clients may also experience breast asymmetry, over or under correction or irregularities following fat removal and changes to skin sensation following the surgery. Further risks will be discussed in detail during the consultation.

What aftercare is provided?

As per all procedures, clients will be given personalised advice regarding after care. You will be followed closely following the procedure and the chest wall will be examined one week following surgery to assess healing. At this check, the dressings will also be changed. Wearing of a pressure garment is advised for 6 weeks following the procedure.

We recommend that you avoid any strenuous physical exercise and excessive alcohol initially after the procedure. It is recommended not to drive for 2 weeks and to undertake light activities only during this time. You should avoid strenuous exercise for 6 weeks. More information regarding post treatment activities will be provided during the consultation.
